Did you know that there are STILL 2000 languages without any part of the Bible translated?

In our meetings, when people hear about these 2000 language groups that don't have any part of the Bible translated, they often ask where these languages are found. One man in Innisfail was more specific - he asked if there was actually a map somewhere that showed the locations of these Bible-less languages in the world. The answer to that question, as of today, is a resounding YES. And here below ('drum roll' sound effects) is THE MAP.
Instead of showing all 2000 Bible-less languages, we have only marked the 400 languages that are classified as "Definite need" for Bible translation. I hope you find it as fascinating as I do to look at this map and see where all these beautiful and unique languages (and people) are clustered. Quite an eye opener I think.
In a little while, instead of just seeing this map as a screen shot, you'll be able to go to it live on our website!!. You will also be able to run your cursor over any of the 400 dots on the map, and as you do, you'll get a pop-up on your screen with information about that language group - ie. name of language, number of speakers, photo, country etc. Huge round of applause goes to Karen for her hard work behind the scenes in getting this all together. It's awesome and we hope that you'll enjoy touring some of the "hidden corners" of the world in this way. And you may even like to "adopt" one of these Bible-less language groups. More about that later. Watch this space.

... Here at Wycliffe, we thank God for keeping you safe from accidents, from crocs, trains and lorries. What next! What a fabulous map! We are praying that as you cover each kilometre, God will be setting up another translation team. |

... You guys are amazing and awesome!!! I'm serving in translation efforts for one of the language groups on this map -- and helping to train others who will reach out to more! Thanks for raising awareness the way you are! Cheering you on from West Africa |

... Thanks, people for raising our awareness! I am gob-smacked to see that there is an incredible amount of need in Indonesia and all the areas north of Australia! I am looking forward to hearing the details of these, in particular. Although my husband and I have been working in short-term missions, with one Borneo people group who have God's word, I can see there are even more crucial needs in other people groups, since you say all these do not have the word of God. Here is great need for prayer, to make a start on this glaring gap. I think you were requesting people take a people group or a language group each, is that so? |

... Karen what a wonderful job you have done. It must have taken hours of 'painful' work!! What a blessing it will be in making it all more real to all of us. |

... Awesome work, Karen!! This 'picture' of the Bibleless language groups indicates where a lot of the needs lie in terms of translations - our neighbours represent a vast number of those languages. May God plant the desire in many to pray, give or go to help these translations become reality - that the people will know Jesus in their lives :) |

... Interesting. I wonder what is the language marked as 'definite need' in southern Chile. Maybe we are missing something... God bless you. |

... Great map and incredible to see it displayed this way, but hey, who cut New Zealand off the end of the world??? |

... Great concept Sav, and the scroll over map with detailed info is an inspired idea. But....by restricting it to just the 400 marked as 'definite' you risk giving the impression that the 'real' need is only 400. As you well know, most of the 'probables' on the ethnologue are also definite needs - we just have not done enough language survey to know for sure! |

... Great work! This is exactly what we need. I look forward to the new information coming up. UN-believeable! Check out the PNG area!! They are our neighbors. It certainly gives Australia something to pray/think about! |

... Wow. That's amazing. I look forward to learning more about all those dots in the region just to the north of Australia and how we can go about adopting a language |

... Look at all those dots in the Indonesia/Papua New Guinea area! We need lots of people to meet the needs there. (Translator in PNG) |
